Today, Mercury Interactive Corporation, the global leader in business technology optimisation (BTO), announced early results from a BTO customer assessment survey.
Responses from 1 200 information technology (IT) professionals worldwide confirmed that BTO is an important strategy for effectively improving application quality and performance, reducing costs, and aligning IT with business goals. Approximately three-quarters of the survey respondents, representing a mix of engineers and mid- to upper-level managers, said they are actively applying BTO in their IT organisations by:
* Aligning IT processes more closely with business priorities (84%).
* Improving the quality and performance of business applications (93%).
* Reducing costs associated with the delivery and management of business applications (82%).
"Leading companies live and die by the IT infrastructures they put in place," said Ellis Admire, director of MIS at Lillian Vernon Corporation. "Applying a solid business technology optimisation strategy enables us to align our IT needs and business goals. The demands on IT are always growing and Mercury Interactive products keep us ahead of the BTO curve."
The BTO Assessment Survey also confirmed the incremental adoption of BTO practices. Of the respondents who are applying the principles of BTO in their organisations, 50% are doing so at a project level, 24% at a departmental level and 5% employ an enterprise-wide BTO strategy.
Survey results also revealed that customers are using Mercury Interactive BTO products to effectively improve the quality of their business applications (76%). Two out of three (67%) reported improvements in application performance or capacity as a result of using Mercury Interactive BTO products, and more than half (52%) have measured a reduction in total application lifecycle costs.
"IT organisations are always experiencing resource restraints, it`s just the way things are," said Bruce Woods, manager for quality and training at Burlington Coat Factory. "By applying business technology optimisation using products from Mercury Interactive, we have actually reduced our resource requirements for all kinds of application delivery. At the same time, we`ve been able to achieve even higher quality standards across the board."
The results of the survey highlight the fast adoption of BTO to consistently, cost-effectively, and rapidly deliver business value from IT. Companies worldwide are using BTO to take an incremental approach to optimising the business of IT.
