Avaya Inc., a leading global provider of voice and data networks to businesses, today announced that its Gold BusinessPartner, Fiberdata, has won a contract to supply data networking solutions to SSAB Tunnplat, Scandinavia`s biggest steel sheet manufacturer and one of Europe`s leaders in the development and manufacture of high-strength grades.
Data solutions from the Avaya Cajun Networking Switch portfolio will be used to build the infrastructure for two new networks at SSAB`s steel manufacturing plants located in Borl"ange and Lulea in Sweden, housing 4,200 employees. The installations are targeted for completion in July 2002.
SSAB required a cost-effective, secure network, built for future evolution. The new infrastructure will provide SSAB with centralised management tools that enable it to monitor and control the actual networks themselves as well as corporate operations, which was not possible before.
"In our industry, highly secure, reliable operations are absolutely critical as network failures can incur major costs. We selected Avaya data solutions as we felt they offered us new levels of flexibility and cost savings as well as streamlined network management tools," said Tommy L"ofgren, information manager at SSAB Tunnplat AB.
"Companies operating in today`s economic climate are looking to save costs and are using communications infrastructure to help them achieve sustainable expense levels. By utilising the Avaya CajunRules(tm) application, SSAB will be able to control network bandwidth and access to services through a single management platform thus allowing its network to match current business needs," said Mikis Samaras, Avaya Channel Manager for the Nordics and Baltics.
"With the process industry being one of our most important target business sectors, the deal with SSAB is very important for Fiberdata," said Torbj"orn Eriksen, Managing Director Fiberdata AB.
