As a new entrant, Swist Group Technologies has been named as one of the top 20 candidates for the Non-listed Company Award.
The award, which is currently in its 18th year, is jointly sponsored by Business Day, Wits Business School, Proudly South African and professional services firm KPMG. This award seeks to pay tribute to SA's unlisted companies and to recognise their contribution to the country's economy.
To be considered for the award, an organisation must have an annual turnover of at least R10 million, pre-tax annual profit of at least R400 000 and gross assets of R2 million or more.
To be named as a finalist, a company must comply with a range of strict criteria and rigorous screening. The award is also intended to pay tribute to business achievement, visionary strategy, sustainable empowerment and sound corporate governance.
Herman Heunis, Managing Director of Swist, says: "We believe that our continuous innovation to provide business advantage puts us ahead of our competitors. In recognition of the convergence of the mobile telecommunications, banking and retail industries, we have positioned ourselves to provide innovative information and communications technology (ICT) solutions to these market sectors."
Past winners include Stuttafords, INCA, Macsteel, Airports Company of SA and Vodacom.
"The bulk of South African companies are not listed and it is these companies that make up the backbone of the economy," said Mohammed Hassan, KPMG's director in consumer products. "The award offers these companies an avenue to display their achievements and gain recognition."
This year's 20 finalists are: Alvern Cables, ATM Solutions, BMW Financial Services, Cheque Guarantee Services, Eberspacher, Hollard Life/Insurance, Internet Solutions, ITWeb, Key Holdings, Praxis Computing, Processing Integration Consulting Solutions, RainbowConstruction, Rohlig Grindrod, Security & Fire Projects, Swist Group Technologies, Teba Bank, Touchline Media, T-Systems, Vitrex and Yired.
The winner will be announced next month at a gala luncheon to be held in Sandton, Johannesburg.
