IT market research advisory firm IDC has named Sybase as an industry-leading vendor in revenue growth for the business analytics software market for 2008. According to IDC, Sybase grew its revenue in worldwide business analytics software revenue, which includes data warehouse platform software, by 41.7% to $148 million in 2007, up from $104 million in 2006.
The company's growth rate outpaced the growth of the global business analytics software market as a whole, which grew 12.7% to reach U$22.1 billion. The current IDC report reinforces the firm's previous analysis that Sybase continues to develop a leadership position in the data warehousing market. A recent IDC report (Worldwide Data Warehouse Platform Software 2007 Vendor Shares; IDC #213671, August 2008) showed Sybase grew its DW platform software revenue by 46% to US$138 million.
Says Alan Cowley, CEO of Sybase South Africa: "Sybase has also enjoyed strong growth in South Africa as local companies turned various business intelligence (BI) and analytics projects into a priority. We expect to expand our customer base across our BI product lines as South African companies continue to make strategic investments into BI to remain competitive in a tough market."
According to IDC, the worldwide business analytics software market is expected to continue to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 9.7% over the next five years. IDC is also expecting continued growth in the packaged performance management applications market, which is likely to serve as a driver for the growth of the data warehousing market.
"More and more South African businesses are relying on Sybase IQ's column-based approach to power high-quality, timely data," says Cowley. "We will continue to bring new products to market to meet the need for mission-critical BI and enterprise data warehousing solutions that offer rich, actionable business insights and a low cost of ownership."
