Sybase, in conjunction with the e-Skills Academy of SA, is turning its attention to skills development for graduates.
Offering a six month programme, Sybase hopes to equip graduates with the added knowledge of software development necessary to be "job ready".
"We will provide twenty unemployed IT graduates with an opportunity to further their knowledge and skills into the more specialised disciplines of software development and object orientation, thus improving their chances of finding suitable employment," says Sybase SA's general manager of services, Arnel Taute.
The course is divided into three months theoretical training and three months workplace experience. Sybase SA co-ordinates the programme and is jointly responsible for the placement of the graduates after they have completed the course.
"The learners involved in last year's programme performed exceptionally well academically, with a 100% pass rate during the theoretical stage," says Taute. "In addition, 85% of our students were permanently placed at the host companies that provided their work place experience."
While addressing the needs of graduates, the initiative also aims to help the requirements of corporate SA. "This initiative will also assist participating organisations to comply with Employment Equity regulations," she adds.
