Database company Sybase South Africa has joined the Ardent DataStage Business Partner Programme. The appointment of Sybase mirrors the relationship between the two companies in the US, and has been made in recognition of Sybase`s position of strength in the data warehousing market with Sybase IQ.
The agreement between Ardent and Sybase embraces sales, technology, marketing and training, with Sybase in a position to provide first-line support to DataStage customers.
"Data quality is non-negotiable when it comes to data warehousing," says Sybase SA GM Dennis Parker. "The process of extracting, transforming and loading data from transaction systems into the data warehouse should be seamless, consistent and automated. This reduces effort, saves time and money and ensures scarce skills can be focused on successful delivery of the data warehouse itself. We are partnering with Ardent to ensure that we can meet these objectives."
Ardent has provided specific interfaces to maximise the features and benefits of Sybase`s data warehousing products: it has integrated DataStage with the Bulk Loader of Sybase IQ and Adaptive Server; and automated the integration of process meta data with Sybase`s Warehouse Control Center. This assists in the management of the data warehouse, says Simon Jeggo, GM of Ardent SA.

DataStage has been deployed at more than 20 data warehousing sites in South Africa. Sybase has deployed it at its first customer site, and is building it in as a foundational layer at another four sites.
Sybase`s percentage of the data warehousing market is growing at more than 150% a year, adds Parker. "Sybase IQ is a specialist tool for the data warehousing market. Its success emphasises the point that for most customers traditional relational transaction databases are not suited for data warehousing applications."
