Sybase Mobile announces wireless enterprise Lotus Notes and Exchange e-mail support for new iPhone 3G

Johannesburg, 22 Jul 2008

Sybase SA Mobile Solutions has announced the immediate launch of e-mail support for the new iPhone 3G model to extend wireless e-mail to Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange e-mail systems. This offering will enable iPhone users wireless e-mail access to Lotus Domino with its product release in the first quarter of 2008; the companycontinues to innovate with support of the new iPhone 3G. This unique approach to providing enterprise e-mail support for the iPhone will provide a rich user experience utilising native iPhone applications and will reduce any potential security concerns.

The application is designed to assist in the provision of high-end technology to corporate and business users, SME owners as well as SOHO users. Smartphone users who require more than just voice will find immense value and benefit in this product offering.

“The pre-launch hype around the iPhone as well as the high sales figures forecast for South Africa as a result of phenomenal sales elsewhere in the world indicate a probable increase in the number of smartphone users in South Africa. We are confident of the positive impact the iPhone will make on the local smartphone market,” says Julie Tomlinson, Director of Sybase SA Mobile Solutions Business Unit.

As Apple will be publishing the iPhone Software Developers Kit, Sybase SA aims to remain at the forefront of the technology arena and to deliver any additional applications on the iPhone.

“We understand the mindset of iPhone users, and they will not want to enter and exit multiple applications on the iPhone to view different information or action different tasks. As a result, our strategy is focused on providing innovative and smart applications for iPhone users and other mobile solutions.

“We endeavour to grow our unwired enterprise and grow the concept and implementation of the inbox of the future, to enable users to be at the forefront of this technology revolution and have all activities centralised to save time and increase usability,” says Tomlinson.

There's currently a lot of techno-activity and advancement in the mobile commerce space. We envision that the ability to purchase and pay for merchandise from the handset will become the accepted way of transacting as technology evolves. We have seen the start of this with mobile banking but there is much more expected in mobile payment transactions; the trend is leading to the creation of mobile wallets and the iPhone is just the beginning.
