Enterprise infrastructure company Sybase SA is offering a 40% discount to customers wanting to upgrade from Computer Associates' ERwin modelling suite to Sybase's PowerDesigner version 9.5 Data Architect.
PowerDesigner is an all-in-one enterprise modelling tool and its Data Architect is powerful and easy to use, supporting full data modelling, conceptual, physical and warehouse modelling.
"The offer is aimed at companies evaluating a modelling or design tool, or wanting to upgrade from their existing suite," says Albert Nel, PowerDesigner product manager at Sybase SA.
"Limited resources coupled with mounting IT costs have increased the demand for IT departments to use design and modelling tools to create IT systems that will support business needs quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively. PowerDesigner meets these criteria and features one common user environment, one repository, object modelling with UML, data modelling, Web services modelling, and more."
PowerDesigner facilitates collaboration between analysts, designers, database and application developers, and administrators. Its enterprise-class repository and tight integration between data and UML models enables design-team members to collaborate throughout the phases of development, from outlining business requirements to the completion of the final application.
"It does away with the need for multiple tools to perform modelling functions necessary for systems development, and gives companies one tool with one standard interface to perform business process modelling, object modelling and data modelling," adds Nel.
Data Architect supports reverse and forward engineering and provides support for more than 40 relational database management systems. There is support for triggers, stored procedures, indexes and external source mapping. Data Architect also has a powerful report generator.
PowerDesigner is extending its data modelling by adding de-normalisation to the data modelling, and has VB scripting as a macro language to help manage the models within PowerDesigner.
For team development, PowerDesigner has an enterprise repository for handling version control and security on models and users.
Other major features of PowerDesigner include:
* Business process modelling for business analysts - a highly effective and simple method of application design that captures business requirements and processes without the complexity of UML.
* Enhanced UML support for developers and designers including an activity diagram and a component diagram.
* Enhanced object/relational design and development.
* Extended support for Enterprise Java Beans definition, creation and maintenance, including persistence layer generation for popular engines and application servers.
* Integrated warehouse modelling - next-generation, dimensional modelling and external source mapping integrated into a standard physical model.
* Integrated support for Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) Script to extend PowerDesigner capabilities.
