Sybase PowerDesigner 15 for enterprise architecture increases business agility with modelling and metadata management

Latest version of market-leading Sybase PowerDesigner delivers comprehensive toolset for implementing enterprise architecture

Johannesburg, 13 Oct 2008

Sybase SA, a leading provider of data management solutions to the local market, today announced the planned availability date of Sybase PowerDesigner 15, an all-in-one modelling and design solution for enterprises that need to build and streamline business processes quickly and consistently. This new version of Sybase PowerDesigner provides enterprise architects, IT professionals and business managers with the ability to improve business and IT alignment through its unique Link and Synch technology. Sybase PowerDesigner 15 also increases the capability for impact analysis and provides greater visibility for all stakeholders, independent of technical experience.

“Business strategists, planners and analysts can derive considerable benefit from an EA tool, because it helps them to better understand the complex system of IT resources and its support of the business,” writes Greta James, Research Vice-President of Gartner.*

“Powerdesigner enables organisations to effectively manage organisational and IT system changes by consolidating all aspects of the organisation and its technology systems into a single database repository. This allows IT managers, architects and line of business managers to have a complete perspective of their respective environments for use in managing the complex landscape associated with running modern IT systems,” explains Rudi Leibbrandt, Practice Manager for Sybase SA's Information Management division.

In today's complex IT environment, enterprises are regularly challenged to closely align various IT elements - systems, data, applications and networks - with business goals, processes and requirements. However, the knowledge of each of these elements is siloed. PowerDesigner 15 removes those silos, streamlining the enterprise's ability to respond to change. As a result, the enterprise becomes more agile, reflects the goals of multiple business units, and meets regulatory and compliance standards.

“Powerdesigner allows our customers to be agile as it enables them to analyse the impact on time, cost and resources when making organisational or system changes. This innovative, patented technology ensures that the respective views of an organisation are kept in synch, managed and accurate. The tool is a must for organisations struggling to manage growing enterprise architectures,” Leibbrandt says.

“We've been using PowerDesigner for the past three years to improve our business and IT alignment. The features have helped us dynamically react to change in our business processes and better serve our customers and partners,” said Dave Winkler, Emerging Technologies Data Architect, Stanley. “We're excited about the focus on enterprise modelling with the newest version and look forward to implementing it.”

“The rise of enterprise architecture is proof that organisations need to manage the impact of changes in competition, technology and regulations across their enterprise. PowerDesigner 15's unique Link and Synch technology provides organisations the ability to implement an enterprise architecture solution from start to finish, removing business and metadata silos and increasing business agility,” said Dan Lahl, director of Intelligent Enterprise for Sybase. “Agility is critical when dealing with business change, and as more businesses move to an unwired enterprise strategy by pushing information further out to the end-user, technology that provides greater control over the underlying IT infrastructure becomes increasingly important.”

Reducing overall costs and system redundancies, PowerDesigner 15 provides a powerful modelling and metadata management tool used to align IT and business goals for meeting regulatory compliance and migrating to modern architectures such as service-oriented architectures. PowerDesigner allows for easy analysis and impact measurement between the business's “as-is” state and “to-be” state allowing for accurate, predictable and reliable IT resource planning in line with business goals.

Key features and benefits:

* Unique Link and Synch technology - PowerDesigner 15 automatically and intuitively captures the intersections between all architectural layers and perspectives of the enterprise, allowing users from all groups to clearly visualise and effectively implement fast, reliable and predictable change.
* New Enterprise Architecture Model - Customers can formally capture all metadata relevant to traditional enterprise architecture analysis.
* New Impact Analysis Diagram - Easy visualisation of the cascading impact of change and management of time and costs associated with such a change.
