Sybase Replication Server delivers e-business information across the enterprise

Johannesburg, 19 Apr 2001

Sybase SA has announced the release of Replication Server 12.1, which allows businesses to move and synchronise information across the enterprise more quickly and easily. The new version of Replication Server includes additional support for heterogeneous environments, as well as performance and manageability enhancements designed to lower a company's total cost of ownership for use within e-business environments.

More than 6 000 companies around the world use Replication Server to synchronise the transactions of business events to their remote locations, and provide high availability and warm recovery of their e-business systems in the event of a disaster.

"In today's e-business environment, Replication Server delivers the critical information required between remote servers and systems to keep Web sites running smoothly," says Sybase middleware product manager, Rudie Bronkhorst. "Businesses rely heavily on data that is shared across many geographic locations and a wide variety of database platforms including Windows NT, Sun and UNIX. Log based replication products allow these organisations to move data from different sources to where it is needed - whether it's a branch location or a Web site. This process is not only becoming quicker, but it is also much easier to manage, making replication technology more cost-effective for e-businesses."

Enhancements to Replication Server 12.1 allow users to manage heterogeneous replication environments with greater ease, providing end-to-end business event synchronisation throughout large scale, distributed e-business systems. In addition to an advanced configuration tool that reduces the time to install the product, administrators may use the new integration tools to configure and monitor multiple heterogeneous components from a single interface, critical for use within an enterprise portal environment.

The new monitors and counters included in Replication Server 12.1 allow users to easily identify resource bottlenecks and architectural limitations, tune the product to provide maximum performance and collect and analyse trend information. Replication Server 12.1 also improves performance by maximising resource utilisation through lowered disk contention, saving on total cost of ownership. In addition, Sun cluster support tolerates multiple failures to provide continuous operation in cluster environments without administrator intervention.

"The new version of Sybase Replication Server expands on the product's performance and ability to replicate data from many different vendors and sources," says Bronkhorst. "It also includes new e-business infrastructure enhancements and makes the product easier to use."
