Sybase SA rounds off BI portfolio with Business Objects partnership

Johannesburg, 12 Nov 2003

Sybase South Africa has partnered with Business Objects to add query, reporting and analytics applications to its business intelligence solutions portfolio. Under terms of the agreement, Sybase South Africa will sell Business Objects' products as part of its business intelligence solution and provide training, implementation and support services for the products.

Estelle de Beer, business intelligence product manager at Sybase South Africa, says the new relationship with Business Objects is an important part of Sybase's strategy to become a full-service provider of complete business intelligence solutions in the South African market.

Sybase South Africa is on a drive to provide solutions that jumpstart the design, development and implementation of focused business intelligence applications that allow companies to gain visibility into their businesses and customers, reduce costs, optimise their supply chains, increase productivity and improve financial performance.

"Sybase offers a strong portfolio of business intelligence infrastructure products, but we have had a gap in our offering for front-end analytical applications. Business Objects, as the leader in this space, was a natural choice of partner for us.

"The Business Objects product range complements our existing portfolio, which includes other best of breed products for ETL, data profiling, predictive analytics, design, and the Sybase IQ analytical database engine," adds De Beer.

Corporate customers are increasingly looking for business intelligence implementation partners who can offer them a complete portfolio of skills, services and products, says Gary Lawrence, country manager at Business Objects South Africa.

"We have appointed Sybase as premier partner, the highest tier of channel partner Business Objects recognises in SA, because it has a good understanding and solid track record in the business intelligence market," he says.

"We believe that Sybase will be able to help us grow our South African business because it has well-established relationships with corporate customers in SA, a number of established reference sites and a good base of business intelligence skills to draw on."
