Symantec completes Brightmail acquisition

Johannesburg, 23 Jun 2004

Symantec Corp, the global leader in information security, today announced the acquisition of Brightmail, originally announced on 19 May 2004, has cleared the customary regulatory approvals and the transaction has been completed ahead of schedule.

This acquisition will position Symantec to provide customers with the most comprehensive messaging security solution in the industry.

Symantec will now focus on integrating Brightmail's industry-leading anti-spam solutions into Symantec's gateway offerings to create a new class of protection.

In addition, the company will look to leverage the huge volume of e-mail traffic passing through the Brightmail filtering process as a new source of early warning on impending threats.
