Symantec, global leader in information security, has introduced its new line of defence in its latest release of the Norton Internet Security 2005 suite of consumer and home office security solutions.
The new product line includes comprehensive protection in the integrated solution Norton Internet Security 2005, as well as core protection point products Norton AntiVirus 2005, Norton Personal Firewall 2005 and Norton AntiSpam 2005.
Included in the new launch of its product suite is the new Internet Worm Protection technology, which provides enhanced automatic protection against blended threats such as the recent Sasser and Blaster.
Patrick Evans, regional manager at Symantec Africa, said: "Today's consumers are facing a new generation of online security threats, which have evolved faster and reached higher levels of complexity than ever before. They require increasingly advanced levels of core protection designed specifically to address the sophisticated threat environments that the global community is experiencing."
"With this launch, Symantec introduces a range of products which combine proactive and powerful defence with easy-to-use automated convenience. It is vital to equip home users with the tools to aggressively defend against today's highly developed Internet threats, using our years as the market leader to ensure maximum usability in the home," he added
Norton Personal Firewall 2005 and Norton AntiSpam 2005 include added functionality against fraud and certain types of phishing scams. Additionally consumers and home users utilising these products will gain access to features like parental control, a Web content filtering solution, and a new Outbreak Alert feature.
"Security remains an ever-prevalent concern, particularly in light of the recent proliferation of virus outbreaks. Although the number of virus attacks has decreased in the last year, the impact on the market has increased significantly," adds Evans. "Therefore, among other features included in Norton Internet Security 2005, the product provides automatic scanning and removal of viruses, worms and Trojans without requiring user intervention. This includes spyware detection capabilities."
Other added features in the Symantec Norton product range include enhanced privacy controls and a new confidential information-blocking tool in Norton Personal Firewall 2005, automatically protecting users from privacy infringements.
"As the time is right for consumers and home users to become more vigilant in their approach to data security, Norton Internet Security 2005, as well as Norton AntiVirus 2005 will also be offered in Home Protection Packs providing user licences for up to three PCs," concludes Evans.
