Symantec intros de-duplication software

Symantec has unveiled NetBackup 5000 de-duplication appliance and NetBackup Cloud Storage to help organisations reduce storage footprint, reports Scoop.

By eliminating duplicate data, Symantec NetBackup 5000 offers an organisation up to 50 times more storage savings than using a traditional backup solution, allowing for cost-efficient long-term retention of on disk and faster and more reliable backup and recovery.

Brian Dye, VP of product management, information management group, Symantec, says: “By extending the benefits of Symantec NetBackup through appliance and cloud delivery models, we are helping our customers reduce complexity and cost without putting an organisation's infrastructure, information and intellectual property at risk.”

Reserve bank told to simplify IT

KC Chakrabarty, deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India has called for banks to ensure that technology implemented is customer focused, says The Financial Express.

“Business structure and processes of the banks have to undergo necessary change to improve efficiency, speed and quality,” he says.

He says bank employees should be computer literate so as to become information literate for better and to improve risk management. “IT planning and governance should happen simultaneously so that a double-digit growth in economy is achieved,” he says.

Banks need to prioritise risk

Banks still need to do more to refine compensation practices and the way in which bonuses are awarded, reveals Bob's Guide.

A study by the Institute of International Finance (IIF) shows that work is still required to improve certain areas surrounding payment processes including disclosure and the way in which bonuses are related to risk.

Further findings from the report shows almost all firms questioned now integrate risk management involvement in their financial award scheme, a figure which is almost twice that seen in 2008.
