Symantec marketing 'aggressively'

Cape Town, 14 Mar 2005

firm Symantec has embarked on an "aggressive" campaign to market its enterprise administration systems, says southern region sales director Andreas Duerr.

Duerr, who is on a short visit to SA, says Symantec has increasingly taken the view that information must be secure and available.

He likens this to having a credit card, but locking the PIN in a safe at home, making the card unusable.

About a year ago, Symantec bought two companies, PowerQuest and ON Technology Corporation (the company Duerr originally worked for), as part of its to deliver solutions that allow customers to build, manage and protect their IT infrastructures with end-to-end security management capabilities.

"Symantec did not want to re-invent the wheel, so they bought us. The idea is to offer a holistic approach to the roll-out and implementation of applications while taking cognisance of the accountability and corporate governance guidelines," Duerr says.

Duerr says so far there has been one large corporate sale of the new enterprise administration system in SA. The unnamed client has a network of over 5 600 PCs.
