Symantec has unveiled Symantec Data Loss Prevention 10, an open loss prevention platform, which it says gives customers more options to find and fix data loss problems.

According to Symantec, data loss prevention (DLP) has become essential as organisations move towards centring their strategies on information.

“The DLP platform help organisations leverage content-awareness across security deployments enterprise-wide and take actions that secure data and prevent its loss,” the company says.

"By opening our DLP platform, we give customers more choices and flexibility to better protect sensitive information in their unique IT environments,” says Gordon Love, regional director for Africa at Symantec.

“We are a step closer to realising the vision of true information-centric security by extending content-awareness into many layers of security.”

Symantec DLP 10, expected to be available in December, will have a FlexResponse feature which helps security teams apply policy-based protection to files containing confidential data, including encryption or ERM, states Symantec. “Until now, integration of DLP with other IT solutions has required manual processes.”

Symantec says the release also allows for integrated remediation options, as it has partnered with third-party providers, including GigaTrust, Liquid Machines, Oracle and PGP.

According to the company, support for XML and Web Services will enable Symantec DLP10 to send rich DLP data to any application or reporting system, including enterprise security dashboards and solutions, such as Symantec Control Compliance Suite.
