Symantec regional director for Africa, Patrick Evans, has resigned. He has passed the reins to Kevin Isaac, who has temporarily taken on the role to head up Symantec`s operations in Africa until a replacement is found.
Evans has managed Symantec SA since 2001. He was responsible for driving market awareness of Internet security in the region, working across Internet service providers, enterprises and smaller companies.
According to a brief company statement, Evans stepped down in December to pursue personal interests.
This announcement comes shortly after Symantec made the decision to retrench local staff in order to achieve a 4.5% cost saving within its workforce budget amid a global economical recession.
Symantec says it will not engage in further job cuts this year. "Symantec will continue to manage the company`s operating costs amid the challenging economic environment, but there are no plans at this time for further workforce reductions," it notes.
The company states its reduction in workforce would not impact its customers in terms of solutions, services and support. It further adds that its product development would not be affected.
Hunt for new blood
Symantec has also emphasised it has no plans in place to restructure its board.
Isaac previously held the role of Symantec`s regional director for the Middle East and North Africa. Symantec says his new role as acting country manager is not intended to be a permanent one.
The company says it is going into the year with plans to continue the strong growth of its business in the region.
Evans and Isaac were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
