Symantec Corp, the global leader in information security, has announced the launch of the Symantec Network Security 7100 Series. This is the organisation's first line of intrusion prevention appliances offering multi-gigabit intrusion protection and the innovative One Click to Prevention capability.
The solution can easily be transitioned from a comprehensive monitoring device to a powerful prevention tool with a single mouse click, allowing customers to switch between modes based on their security policy. One Click to Prevention can be easily implemented to any topology, ensuring business continuity while providing optimum protection against security threats.
Symantec Network Security 7100 Series leverages the new Intrusion Mitigation Unified Network Engine (IMUNE), which redefines comprehensive network protection by combining multiple detection technologies such as protocol anomaly detection, vulnerability attack interception, signature recognition, denial-of-service and scan detection and IDS evasion detection. A revolutionary approach to detecting and blocking today's ever-changing security threats in real time, the IMUNE architecture stops worms from propagating and blocks malicious threats with the highest level of accuracy.
The solution series will be offered in three different models (7120, 7160 and 7161) to accommodate varying performance needs and port configurations. The highly scalable solutions offer varying levels of performance to meet the different bandwidth needs of customers and can range from 50Mbps to 2Gbps, across as many as eight network segments on a single appliance.
According to Richard Stiennon, vice-president of international research house, Gartner: "Technologies have emerged that enhance network security by enabling enterprises to block attacks to protect their networks and IT resources. Firewalls, vulnerability management and intrusion prevention systems counter threats posed by worms, increased hacking activity and enterprise insiders. Today's intrusion prevention systems must also move beyond simple signature-based approaches to support policy-, behaviour- and anomaly-based detection algorithms."
Patrick Evans, regional manager at Symantec, says: "On the back of this statement from Gartner, our customers have told us that in addition to comprehensive intrusion detection, high scalability and performance and centralised management, they also want a solution that offers prevention they can control. Symantec Network Security 7100 Series is the first appliance to deliver on all of these needs, while also leveraging security intelligence from the world's leading response organisation and premier global early warning system."
The product was recently awarded the highest possible score by CRN, a CMP United Business Media publication, in its comprehensive review of the solution. CRN reviewed the Symantec Network Security 7120 appliance, one of three models in the Symantec Network Security 7100 Series, and awarded the solution with five out of five stars for both technical merit and Symantec's channel programme. As a result, Symantec Network Security 7100 Series earned the "CRN Test Centre Recommended" designation, an honour bestowed on solutions with an average of four stars or greater across the two ratings.
"We are honoured to have Symantec Network Security 7100 Series recognised by CRN internationally," says Patrick Evans, Regional manager at Symantec. "The results of this comprehensive review confirm that Symantec's first line of intrusion prevention appliances provide a high level of robust protection against today's blended threats while also offering real benefits to our channel partners. Symantec are thus able to assist their clients in ensuring that optimum security standards are realised within the South African market place."
