Symbol awards RangeGate for reaching $2m sales in 2001

Johannesburg, 10 May 2002

South African mobile business solutions company, RangeGate, has been presented with an award for achieving the highest sales of Symbol products in the 2001 financial year. This was the top honour given to Symbol Technologies` South African channel partners at an international event held in Las Vegas.

RangeGate sells all Symbols` products locally, with a primary focus on mobile computing. It also sells a significant number of handheld computers which connect via radio frequency (RF) with customers` ERP systems. The company reached sales totalling $2 million, or approximately R18.5 million.

"We have become focused on the Symbol product offering and thus formed a very close relationship with Symbol Technologies," says Mark Lilje, chief operating officer at RangeGate. "We believe this award is just the beginning of even greater achievements."

He says the partnership`s value-add lies in the fact that RangeGate is a recognised systems integrator of Symbol equipment and has been for the past 18 months. And because RangeGate is a significant player in the mobile market it can entrench Symbol`s products in the local market, increase sales of equipment and create greater market share.

"This relationship will facilitate the implementation of the RangeGate product offering. For example, the Mobile-Edge product set will greatly improve efficiencies for our customers," says Lilje. "In addition, we will achieve all this by integrating our software and professional services with industry-leading mobile technologies such as Symbol."

RangeGate sees mobile growth going towards connectivity via GSM and GPRS, and for this reason, it plans to greatly increase its Symbol product sales this year and form an even closer, more profitable relationship.
