Symetrix, a premier Cisco partner, has migrated commercial law firm, Deneys Reitz Attorneys' network to Cisco equipment in a technology investment worth R400 000. The implementation was seamless, with not one moment of unscheduled down time throughout the project.
Previously, Deneys Reitz Attorneys had a multi-vendor investment with predominantly 3Com equipment. Symetrix has implemented seven Cisco 3548 Catalyst switches, two Cisco 3524 Catalyst switches, one Cisco 3640 and two 1750 routers.
Deneys Reitz Attorneys has recently amalgamated its two practices, commercial and mining matters and insurance law into one. Brain Patterson, director responsible for information technology (IT) at Deneys Reitz Attorneys says, "We had to build new offices to accommodate the increase in staff numbers as a result of the merge. This gave us a greenfield opportunity to design and implement an IT system that has the ability to grow with the company. Additionally, the implementation included scalability features to ensure that it is stable enough to accommodate new technology going forward."
Daniel Turtledove, director at Symetrix says that Deneys Reitz Attorneys chose the Cisco solution due to the flexibility of the technology. "We built the network with voice over data capability as the company's needs dictate this as one of the future growth areas. Cisco had the best voice solution and, as Deneys Reitz is building this network for the future we had to go with Cisco as it has a balance between good local support and adherence to international standards."
Patterson adds that throughout the migration the employees of Deneys Reitz Attorneys experienced no down time with IT services, which for the law firm and its clients was of utmost importance. "Symetrix managed the process by ensuring that even when the network was down over the two scheduled weekends all employees had access to their e-mail and other relevant information that was on the servers. The project was a success, especially if judged by the fact that is was a painless implementation and growth is easily catered for. When there is an increase in users it will have no impact on the performance of the network."
