SyncMyMail finds business professionals choosing iPhone over Android

iPad is the number one pick for tablets.

Johannesburg, 12 May 2011

The Android market share and popularity among consumers continues to climb, but SyncMyMail business professionals generally select the iPhone as Exchange device, according to SyncMyMail, the South Africa's preferred Hosted Exchange provider.

SyncMyMail reviewed the number of ActiveSync-based smartphones its customers activated. Fifty-two percent choose the iPhone, while only 27% used an Android device. ActiveSync is the syncing protocol that iPhone, Android and Windows 7 smartphones use to sync e-mail and other information with Microsoft Exchange.

SyncMyMail also finds that the iPad is a business choice, with 78.8% of tablet customers picking the Apple brand over the Motorola Xoom or Samsung Galaxy.

SyncMyMail's business e-mail and collaboration solutions support all smartphones and tablets, including iPhone, Android devices, and BlackBerry. Other smartphone stats from SyncMyMail include:

* Fifty-two percent on iPhone
* Twenty-one percent on “other” (primarily Windows, followed by Symbian and Palm)
* Twenty-seven percent on Android

ActiveSync devices activated in April: iPhone is still leading, with a share of 42% new activations. Android's share is climbing fast with 33%.

Tablets activated in April: Close to 95% of new tablets were iPads, with just a small fraction activating the Samsung Galaxy and Motorola Xoom.

Note: No specific user or account action/e-mail was reviewed by SyncMyMail in determining these statistics. The BlackBerry remains a central component to SyncMyMail's mobility offering, but this data is specific to ActiveSync devices, which does not include hosted BlackBerry.

“With a growing number of mobile devices, more and more people want to sync and manage their business e-mail, contacts, and calendars across their device,” says Jan Folmer, CEO of SyncMyMail. “For companies with in-house Exchange or entrepreneurs with no IT staff, it becomes a challenge to support all these devices. Hosted Exchange from SyncMyMail delivers these productivity capabilities with the click of a mouse.”

In addition to hosted Microsoft Exchange 2010, as well as other Microsoft products such as Office Communications Server 2007 and SharePoint 2010, SyncMyMail offers an integrated suite of cloud communications and collaboration services. These services include Encrypted Email and Online Backup. All SyncMyMail services are set up and managed from SyncMyMail's Control Panel.
