Synergy to show and tell what's new in BI

Johannesburg, 07 Aug 2013

Searching for the right business intelligence (BI) solution for your company - and making sure it is a success - is much like looking for the right partner.

Stretching the analogy a bit? Not if you consider that the right BI must be more than a pretty face, must move you to action, and should be fuelled with smarts.

To help both customers and prospects navigate their way to the solution best suited to them and their companies, Synergy will be hosting a BI Update event and has enlisted an expert in the field to give the low-down on IBM's latest BI offerings.

"Oliver Oursin is no newcomer to South Africa, and our customers have come to know him as a trusted voice in the BI arena, which is why we are confident that both they, and anyone else interested, will get the latest and most relevant information," said Synergy MD, Christo Bredenkamp.

Oursin is IBM's worldwide predictive and business intelligence solution executive. He has more than 14 years' experience in BI and performance management, working different senior roles at both Cognos and IBM. He holds a diploma in mathematics from the Friedrich-Alexander University, in Erlangen, Germany.

"He is an energetic and captivating speaker who will make you rethink your view of the value of analytics," said Bredenkamp.

Highlights of the Synergy event, which will take the form of lunch sessions in three major cities, will include:

* Update on Cognos 10.2
* The mobile workforce - insights where, when and how it suits you
* BI and big data - the volume, variety and velocity challenge
* The social explosion - they talk, you listen, then what?

"To whet the appetite, IBM Cognos Mobile extends interactive Cognos Business Intelligence to a broad range of mobile devices, including the Apple iPhone and iPad, Android phones, and BlackBerry phones and Playbook. This means users can view and fully interact with Cognos reports, dashboards, metrics, analysis and other information in a security-rich environment. As such, they receive timely, informative and interactive information to support their decision-making, regardless of location.

"This is just one of the highlights, with other equally and even more exciting aspects of Cognos 10.2 waiting to be explored.

"The event is pitched at both existing customers as well as those looking into BI and who are keen to find out what IBM has in its stable," said Bredenkamp.

The lunch sessions will take place in Cape Town on 26 August, Joburg on 27 August, and Durban on 28 August.
