T-Mobile and Meru team up

T-Mobile is partnering with enterprise LAN vendor Meru Networks to bring fixed-mobile convergence to business customers. This will allow compatible T-Mobile devices to roam between cellular network towers and indoor UMA networks, says Mobile Burn.

The companies have tested the convergence program to ensure seamless 'handoffs' from cellular to WiFi networks.

The service will allow enterprise customers to save on mobile costs and have better network reception in large offices where cellular coverage may be sparse. Using T-Mobile's UMA service does not cost customers any of their plan minutes.

3G handsets increase uptake

Mobile broadband will continue to expand as 3G-enabled phones become increasingly popular with subscribers, states eMarketer.

More than 2.5 billion consumers will subscribe to 3G worldwide by 2013, according to a Parks Associates report. Parks Associates predicts more than one billion of those subscribers will be in Asia alone.

The spread of 3G means continued expansion of mobile capabilities and a growing audience for mobile ads. Fixed-mobile convergence that brings voice and data to one IP-based network will enable service providers to give mobile users more customisable service options that make accessing multimedia, such as video, as efficient by mobile as it is by computer.

Anthony Marano eyes award

Anthony Marano Company, of Agito Network's enterprise mobile convergence customers, has been named as a finalist for the Gartner Wireless & Mobile Excellence Award, reports News Wire Today.

Selection of the finalists for Gartner's Wireless & Mobile Excellence Award was determined by Gartner analysts. As a finalist, Anthony Marano Company CTO Chris Nowak will present at the Gartner Wireless & Mobile Summit being held in Chicago from 23 to 25 February.

With Agito's RoamAnywhere Mobility Router, Anthony Marano Company enables continuous high-quality voice coverage for its mobile produce buyers and sellers, who need to be accessible at all times to receive and fulfil an average of 3 000 orders throughout the day.
