Localised ICT services multinational T-Systems this morning announced it has acquired local enterprise information management (EIM) solutions provider Intervate, for an undisclosed amount.

The deal, effective as of 1 January, allows T-Systems to deliver "innovative new solutions to business customers", encompassing a full EIM offering, including SharePoint and mobile applications.

Intervate assists organisations with improving productivity and collaboration, reducing costs and increasing compliancy, and is a Microsoft-focused business.

In terms of the acquisition, Intervate will operate as a legal entity under T-Systems' Systems Integration division.

Collin Govender, VP of systems integration at T-Systems, says the deal strengthens T-Systems' position in the EIM market, offering the company additional skills, innovation and expertise. He adds the acquisition creates a new EIM business that will bolster and complement T-Systems' existing systems integration portfolio.

"Intervate was the ideal organisation to bolster our key competencies and grow our Microsoft skills base. Their strategic, tactical and operational capabilities in the EIM space will integrate seamlessly into our systems integration business, bringing together our core offerings into a comprehensive solution for our customers and partners."

Intervate MD Lionel Moyal will head up the new EIM entity, that falls under T-Systems' business. "Joining T-Systems allows Intervate to accelerate its growth and have a greater influence on the local South African market, while enabling expansion into other territories across Africa," he says.

He explains the deal increases Intervate's market influence and connects the "unique global skills and customers" of both organisations. Intervate also has a strong background in the development of mobile applications, which will complement T-Systems' mobile offering, says Moyal.

Intervate has a national footprint and its Johannesburg office will be moved to T-Systems' head offices, in Midrand, in due course. The EIM solutions provider was established in 1999 and currently employs more than 100 people.

Intervate's customer base includes government, finance and insurance, telecoms, education, IT, retail, mining and the automotive industry.

"The multiple synergies between the two businesses will ensure this acquisition is mutually beneficial for all parties concerned. In addition, our focus of 'transform with innovation' reflects the ethos at Intervate, and further contributes to the success of this acquisition," says Gert Schoonbee, MD of T-Systems.
