T-Systems encourages values-driven society, supports National Values Campaign

Johannesburg, 04 Aug 2011

T-Systems in South Africa, together with other leading South African companies, has become an official supporter of the National Values Campaign, an initiative which aims to shape the national agenda and turn the country into a values-driven society.

The National Values Campaign falls in line with T-Systems' corporate governance initiative, named Got Ethics, which aims to entrench ethical behaviour in the workplace. In addition to this initiative, T-Systems also contributes towards different corporate social initiatives in its endeavour to give back to the society in which it does business.

“The National Values Campaign is undoubtedly an initiative that sets a wonderful example, and importantly, a tangible vehicle for South Africans to create a society built on core values that will stand us in good stead today and in the future. As a company, T-Systems feel privileged to form part of this united effort and encourage South Africa to participate and make a difference,” comments Mardia van der Walt-Korsten, Managing Director at T-Systems in South Africa.

Other well-known South African companies that have pledged their support to the campaign include Absa, First National Bank, Nedbank, Eskom, Telkom, Nestle and Trudon. The National Values Campaign uses the Barrett survey to provide South Africans with a chance to vote on their desired values. The campaign believes it will identify common values and ultimately make the country a better place to live in.

This campaign is also closely aligned with the Department of Arts and Culture's South African @ Heart campaign, which aims to work together towards building a caring nation.

Launched on 11 May 2011, the first phase of the campaign endeavours to encourage as many South Africans as possible to vote for the values they want to see reflected in their country. Access to the online survey - which is currently available in English, Afrikaans, Zulu, Setswana and Xhosa - can be gained by visiting www.ourvalues.co.za. It is expected that the initial results of the survey - which will help determine the country's top 10 values - will be made public during August.
