Deutsche Telekom`s local subsidiary, T-Systems, has teamed up with SAP to introduce a solution to improve efficiencies in the South African healthcare sector.
"SAP was looking for a reliable partner for developing a solution that covers the administration of medical processes based on SAP technology. T-Systems adheres to this requirement and was therefore the best choice," explains Jean Roux, business manager for service line at T-Systems.
"SAP for Healthcare, through the partnership with T-Systems, covers not only the business and administrative part of the healthcare business, but also covers the most important clinical processes with an online cost transparency of the delivered services and consumables."
The solution, dubbed i.s.h.med, is based on the SAP NetWeaver platform and is integrated into the SAP for Healthcare solution.
The i.s.h.med system communicates over the SAP database with other SAP modules, such as SAP for Healthcare, SAP CORE and SAP HR modules, giving users quick access to patient records and other administrative files, Roux explains.
According to T-Systems, the solution is aimed at large private and public hospitals, as well as hospitals in mining communities.
"This patient-centric solution will allow medical staff to focus on their duties rather than administrative tasks," says Roux.
"It will help in the management of a hospital by providing planning, documenting, coordinating, communicating and evaluating functions."
Roux explains that SAP and T-Systems` development partnership is over a decade old. Together, they have developed the i.s.h.med solution into an international clinical information system, which will be marketed to the local healthcare industry.
"We are proud to have over 260 customers in 14 countries around the world," adds Roux.
