Tactile Technologies distributes novel digital signage solution across Africa

By The Innovation Hub
Johannesburg, 12 Oct 2007

MediaTile's African distributor and resident at The Innovation Hub, Tactile Technologies, has released the MediaTile cellular-digital-signage product line, named Digital-Sign-In-A-Box, for immediate customer delivery across the continent of Africa.

MediaTile's unique cellular and Web-based solutions are expected to accelerate customer deployments of digital networks in Africa. These solutions enable businesses to deploy advertising, educational or informational broadcast networks without any on-site technical expertise, computer configuration or network setup.

"We are extremely excited about bringing the tremendous communication advantages that MediaTile digital signage solutions provide to both businesses and consumers to Africa," said Mauro Mercuri, GM of Tactile Technologies and exclusive MediaTile business partner for Africa. "With our business partner Vodacom we have eliminated virtually all of the technical barriers associated with IP-based digital signage networks and thereby opened the market to far more businesses."

Earlier in June, Tacticle Technologies announced it had secured an agreement with Vodacom Business Solutions, a division of Vodacom South Africa, to accelerate the market adoption of networked digital signage deployments and direct broadcast networks. The agreement enables both companies to team up and offer cellular-based digital signage solutions to retail chains, product vendors, advertisers and the emerging market of narrowcasters.

MediaTile's cellular-digital-signage solution is a perfect example of the new type of devices and appliances that are integrating Vodacom mobile services for their exclusive network access. "The value that Vodacom's mobile broadband network brings to the MediaTile digital signage solution is unmatched in terms of business flexibility, value, ease of use, simplicity of operation and network reliability," continued Mercuri.

MediaTile Digital-Sign-In-A-Box displays can be shipped to hundreds of locations such as retail stores or banks, and are configured by simply plugging them into a standard power outlet. MediaTile displays then instantly connect over the Internet using Vodacom mobile 3G/GPRS services, and are individually or collectively controlled through a secure Web-based portal. MediaTile displays are available in 19-inch, 32-inch, 42-inch and 47-inch HD LCD sizes, including touch screen configurations.

Also available is a separate "component player" that can be connected to almost any existing display - from 5-inch display panels to immense outdoor electronic billboards.

"This is nothing less than the beginning of a new era in consumer communications and broadcasting," said Keith Kelsen, CEO and founder of The MediaTile Company.

"Across the globe, we are seeing the emergence of a new breed of direct broadcasting from digital signage networks that provide relevant information where and when it matters the most. In retail and banking, it's advertising at the point of sale; in communities it's a promotional city network; in corporate facilities it's an internal information network."
