Maintaining trusted asset data.
Taggit Asset Technologies has confirmed its role as the master distributor for Hardcat fixed asset management software throughout Africa, strengthening access to a globally established platform for organisations that need accurate, auditable and practical control over their assets.
Hardcat, founded in Melbourne in 1986, is recognised as one of the earliest dedicated asset management software platforms and is used by organisations in more than 120 countries. The software supports asset tracking, life cycle management, audit readiness, RFID and bar code verification, maintenance, help desk workflows and integration with wider business systems.
For African organisations operating across multiple sites, branches, public sector facilities, logistics networks, healthcare environments, utilities, education campuses or industrial operations, the challenge is no longer only knowing what assets exist. The larger issue is maintaining trusted asset data that can support accountability, compliance, insurance, operational planning and financial reporting.
Craig Beer, Managing Director of Taggit Asset Technologies, said: “We see a clear need across the African market for an asset management system that is both powerful and practical. Hardcat has the depth, track record and flexibility to meet that need, while Taggit brings the local implementation experience, hardware knowledge and field services required to make the system work in real environments.”
Through the distribution agreement, Taggit will provide African clients with access to Hardcat software licensing, implementation support, RFID and bar code hardware, asset tags and labels, mobile verification tools, training, hosting options and ongoing support. This gives clients a single regional partner for both the technology platform and the practical fieldwork required to build and maintain reliable asset registers.
The partnership is especially relevant as organisations place greater emphasis on governance, asset visibility and evidence-based reporting. Hardcat allows each physical asset to be connected to a controlled electronic record, with location, custodian, condition, movement history, supporting images and transaction records available to authorised users.
Jeremy Montgomery, Operations Director at Taggit, added: “Successful asset management is not only about software. It requires the right tags, scanners, mobile tools, implementation process and ongoing support. Taggit brings these elements together for African organisations, helping clients move from a static asset register to a reliable, working asset control environment.”
Hardcat can be deployed in cloud or on-premises, depending on the client’s IT and security requirements. Its modular design allows organisations to begin with fixed asset control and expand into areas such as maintenance, help desk, stock, depreciation, mobile audits and RFID-based verification.
According to Taggit, the practical value of the platform lies in its ability to reduce manual reconciliation, improve the accuracy of asset records, support audit evidence and give management a clearer view of asset location, status, movement and use. This is particularly important where assets are dispersed, mobile, high-value or subject to regulatory and internal control requirements.
Key capabilities include:
- Fixed asset register management across multiple sites and departments.
- Bar code, QR code and RFID-based identification and verification.
- Mobile asset capture and audit support through MiCatX.
- Maintenance planning and work order management.
- Help desk and incident management linked to assets or locations.
- Role-based access control, audit trails and transaction history.
- API-based integration with ERP, finance and operational systems.
- Cloud or on-premises deployment options.
