Real Systems, a Cape Town-based developer of a document storage and retrieval system aimed at small and large enterprises, is looking for systems integrators to sell and implement the product.

The iFile Document Management, claimed by its creators to be a fast, memory-friendly system, interfaces with most leading-name databases, says MD Lorraine Cock.

Compression techniques used in designing the package reduce average space requirements for document storage by about 25%, making it fast and less onerous on memory capacity than most other systems, Cock adds.

iFile manages the scanning, indexing, saving and retrieval of documents from sources external to an organisation`s office system.

Documents received through devices such as scanners, photocopiers or fax are indexed according to filing templates. The indexes and images are stored in the office database for later retrieval according to their index fields.

The set of image manipulation tools, graphics processing and compressed image storage in the database all contribute to the speed and efficiency with which documents are managed.

Cock says iFile will be a major productivity boost to forms and invoice-intensive operations such as administrators, short-term insurers and retailers. "Beta sites in the SA health and insurance industries have already delivered on their promise of increased document management efficiency," she says.

With iFile, images can be scanned externally, or using iFile`s own tools. They can also be imported from the Web, CD or camera and placed in a scanned images folder in an inbox.

The software is supplied with two example filing schemes - one for business documents and the other for a personal photo album. Additional filing templates can be created according to specific business needs.

A free-form keyword search facility means there is flexibility in storing images for easy retrieval.

Images can also be edited before storing. Annotations and reminders can be added to the documents, but the images cannot be amended in any way.

iFile supports most large database systems from Microsoft SQL Server to Oracle with as many concurrent users as are licensed by the software vendor.

Systems integrators keen to add iFile to their store of client solutions can e-mail Cock at iFile@realsystems.co.za.
