Tall, dark and wireless: LG`s wireless-speaker home cinema system

Johannesburg, 23 Oct 2003

LG Electronics has found the solution to running messy cables all over your lounge. Bluetooth technology allows the `tallboy` speakers to be placed around your room, without mounting them on the walls and running metres of cabling.

The company`s newest addition, the DA-SW6100 incorporates the latest developments from LG`s extensive R&D initiatives. The Product Manager for Audio/Video at LG Electronics South Africa explains: "The DA-SW6100 removes all the hassle of installing a home cinema system, as the wireless `tallboy` speakers are already at the perfect height and do not need to be wall-mounted."

At its launch at the 2003 IFA show in Berlin, it was widely agreed that LG was the first manufacturer to provide wireless speaker technology without loosing sound quality through signal interference. The 330W(RMS) digital amplifier is connected to a wireless transmitter, which relays the 2.4GHz frequency (Bluetooth), to the receiver in the satellite speakers.

The move to the `tallboy` speaker format was based on research conducted into how consumers are currently assembling their systems. LG discovered that due to the constraints of the room and the furniture arrangements, speakers are not being placed optimally. With wireless `tallboy` speakers, an optimal speaker arrangement can be achieved without the speaker cables detracting from the aesthetics of the room.

Featuring a six-channel Dolby Digital amplifier, CD/VCD/DVD/CD-R/CD-RW playback, RDS Tuner, five satellite speakers (50 watts each) and a sub-woofer (80 watts); this innovative system is sure to do justice to your DVD collection.

In keeping with the styling of the speakers, the mirror-face of the DVD player is uncluttered, with only the most frequently used buttons being accessible on the unit itself. All the other features, like the six step (max 16x) zoom and multi-speed scan (100x), are accessible right from your armchair with the compact remote.

Sound quality is guaranteed with the built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder that features multi-format compatibility as well as the option of Dolby Pro Logic 2, which allows you to enjoy the cinema sound regardless of the format. The DA-SW6100 has all the features of a top flight stand alone DVD player, allowing you more control over the action on the screen. With `marker` and `marker search` functions, favourite movie sequences can be stored plus movies can be book-marked until they are watched again.

LG will continue to develop more innovative solutions as the combination of new technologies drives consumer demand.
