TallyCom catches the Big 5

Johannesburg, 09 Jun 2004

The merger of Tally and Genicom late last year to form a new printing giant, TallyGenicom, guaranteed local customers of both brands continued and ever-improving printing technology and an even more reliable support infrastructure in future. In support of this commitment to excellence, TallyCom, local TallyGenicom representative, has appointed Big 5 Distribution, formerly Geniprint, as a TallyGenicom distributor.

"Both Tally and Genicom printers are workhorses used in environments where reliability and performance are non-negotiable," says David Terry, GM of TallyCom. "Our customers rely on their printers and on our ability to appoint distributors and service partners of the highest calibre. Big 5 has been a leader in the printer services and distribution field for two decades and was therefore a natural choice for TallyCom."

"Big 5 has been a Genicom distributor and service partner for the past 20 years and has acquired knowledge and skills that are as significant as that of the manufacturer," says Sylvester Motaln, chairman of Big 5 Distribution. "In that time we have built a strong customer base along with expert technical skills enabling us to repair printers right down to board level. The creation of TallyGenicom resulted in the combination of two excellent printer manufacturers and the development of an unbeatable product roadmap for the future. We are therefore happy to be part of the family of the newly-merged company."

With its countrywide presence and years of experience, Big 5 will be able to add the Tally range of printers to its skills set and provide after-sales, warranty and out-of-warranty service to Tally, Genicom and future TallyGenicom printers. It also sells original consumables for both brands.

"Not all printer customers live in Johannesburg or Cape Town," notes Terry. "For this reason TallyCom needs to ensure that we offer a broad range of choices for dealers and end-users, guaranteeing the availability of product, parts, consumables and service. Big 5 will assist us in differentiating our support from that of our competitors."

The agreement is still in its infancy stage, but Motaln states that TallyCom and Big 5 are already working well together. "This is a great opportunity for Big 5 to expand its services and product offerings. TallyCom is also able to offer South African customers a new service and distribution hub with a 20-year track record of premium service and technical excellence."
