Video conferencing solutions company Tandberg has opened a South African office, which will offer customers sales, marketing and technical services.
“The company's focus is on providing video conferencing solutions anywhere, anytime and any place. This enables users to participate in video communications in the office, home, hotel room, airport or in the boardroom, any time,” says Bryan Thompson, Tandberg area manager, SA.
The Norwegian-based company's vision is to offer its customers a secure and high quality solution. “Generally, video conferencing users have experienced difficulty in achieving good video and audio quality. Costs have been high and bandwidth expensive requiring ISDN connectivity. Tandberg offers high-definition video at a competitive price. Security is another key issue. It is easy to hack into many of the locally available systems. For corporate and business use, it is crucial that communications are secure,” says Thompson.
The company is developing environmentally responsible products. “We aim to provide products and services that improve relationships among people and make communication more effective. Our products must be able to be recycled or disposed of safely at the end of product life, and as a company we must comply with all relevant environmental legislation for our industry,” he explains.
Tandberg has also unveiled its company-wide travel reduction philosophy, a partnership with Vodafone. This encourages employees to replace business travel with one of the Tandberg video lounges installed by Vodafone in 14 countries around the world.
Thompson says as a result, Vodafone has eliminated 13 500 flights per year since committing to video conferencing as a business tool. This has helped the company reduce its carbon emissions by over 5 500 tons annually and achieve a ROI for its video investment within a year.
