Tarsus Technologies has proudly announced it recently beat off strong competition from its peers in the hotly contested enterprise infrastructure, rack, power and cooling segments, and in doing so, was recognised as APC's top performing distributor in the Enterprise and Solutions category for 2011.
This accolade comes on the back of a similar award given to Tarsus for its exceptional performance in the Home Business and Network segment during 2010.
The fact that Tarsus' efforts in the Enterprise and Solutions segment have been recognised with this accolade means its strategic decision to build a competency in the high-end business infrastructure space was both expertly timed and has begun reaping tangible rewards.
Craig Heidemann, APC product manager at Tarsus Technologies, says rack-mount infrastructure, power and cooling has been one of the most neglected areas of the worldwide IT market, but is at the same time one of the most important.
“In the past year, we've seen firsthand how customers spare no expense when it comes to server, storage and networking infrastructure, choosing the best and most reliable equipment that money can buy. Yet they still experience reliability issues after a couple of months' operation.
“After thorough investigation, it turned out that underspecified power protection, cooling and rack-mount infrastructure was chosen to sidestep the unforeseen issues that data centres can experience in their everyday operations.
“We retrofitted APC equipment into these environments, and almost magically, those issues disappeared,” he says.
“This means that more work clearly needs to be done to educate the market about the benefits of true enterprise-grade power and cooling infrastructure.”
Heidemann is convinced that Tarsus' efforts to rectify these misperceptions and educational gaps over the past couple of years is the reason the company has been recognised by APC as the leading distributor in this field.
Over the past year, Tarsus has focused strongly on enterprise customers' needs, and in doing so, has grown its headcount and stockholding in the enterprise segment substantially.
“We have even gone so far as to employ an in-house data centre consultant, Jacques Gobey, whose core focus is to perform site surveys on behalf of our resellers, and more specifically, specify the bills of materials needed to meet the power and cooling requirements of large enterprises,” he says.
With this sound basis in place, Heidemann says the APC business unit has a bright future to look forward to.
“We really feel we've bolstered our skill and resource in this segment at the right time, and that our peers have some catching up to do.
“That shouldn't suggest we are going to rest on our laurels and simply benefit from our past efforts, however,” he adds.
“We realise this is a hotly contested market with great opportunities, and will continue to invest over the coming years,” he concludes.
