Tarsus Technologies, the value-add distribution arm of MB Technologies, has announced that IBM`s mini NetVista S42 desktop will be available to the South African market from the mid-November 2002.
"The NetVista S42 is one of the smallest desktop PCs available," says Tanya Smart, IBM PCD product manager at Tarsus Technologies. "Yet, despite its size, it is a no-compromise, fully-functional desktop ideally suited for use in banks, retail outlets, schools, medical offices and small businesses."
Measuring a mere 31cm wide, 34.5cm deep and 8.4cm high, IBM claims that the NetVista takes up to 64% less space than traditional IBM desktops. However, it still houses the latest industry-standard technology and IBM`s signature PC options for wireless connectivity and simplified data migration and manageability.
Standard performance features include:
. An Intel Pentium 4 processor (up to 2.53GHz);
. Double Data Rate memory up to 2GB maximum (twice the memory performance of traditional SDRAM);
. Integrated Intel Ethernet;
. Intel Extreme integrated graphics;
. Four USB 2.0 ports in front with two more at the back; and
. Hard disk drives up to 40GB.
The NetVista S42 is enabled for ImageUltra - IBM`s signature image management and data migration solutions and features two full-height PCI slots and three bays, an industry-standard optical drive and a diskette drive. "These features allow for customisation and easy upgrades, which are not possible on other small form factor PCs," says Smart.
IBM Rapid Response PC is preloaded on the machine, reducing downtime and data loss from a virus or corrupted software image as users can launch the program to restore files or entire software images from a protected partition on the hard disk drive.
"Selected models of the IBM NetVista S42 feature the latest integrated Intel 10/100 MT Ethernet technology for high-speed communication and data transmission across a network," Smart adds.
Working exceptionally well with the S42 desktops are two space-saving flat panel monitor offerings from IBM - the T710 Analogue Flat Panel Monitor and the T560 Flat Panel Monitor. The T710 is a 17-inch monitor available in Stealth Black or Pearl White. It is a good choice for most applications, displaying bright, clear images with a 30msec response time.
The hybrid T560 feature either analogue or digital inputs and its revolutionary design offers users a full range of motion and the ability to switch between portrait and landscape views.
