Tarsus offers IBM xSeries 235 servers for mission-critical applications

Johannesburg, 09 Oct 2002

Tarsus Technologies, the value-add distribution arm of MB Technologies, has the new IBM xSeries 235 servers in stock for customers who require up to two-way 1.8, 2.0, 2.2, or 2.4GHz processing power, significant memory, high-availability and large data storage scalability.

The flexible xSeries 235 two-way servers feature fast, high-performance two-way Intel Xeon processors and offer a range of high-availability options for mission critical applications.

Offering a pathway for future growth, the x235 provides large expandability with two processors, up to 12GB (when 2GB DIMMs are available) of DDR (Double Data Rate PC2100) memory, internal storage capacity up to 660MB, and six available PCI slots. Integrated Gigabit Ethernet provides extensive networking bandwidth while keeping all slots free for other adapters.

"The x235 is the first to deliver leading Ultra320 HDD performance with affordable data protection and server availability," says Drikus van der Walt, IBM product manager at Tarsus Technologies. "It delivers integrated Ultra320 RAID-1 functionality, which provides the ability to mirror hard disk drives for data protection and even higher server availability. X-Architecture features like Chipkill memory, Active PCI-X technology and hot-swap cooling/power allow for the replacement of failed fans or power supplies without taking the server down. For flexibility to meet custom space needs, the x235 comes in 5U tower models and offers tower to rack conversion kit."

IBM`s Integrated System Management Processor provides extensive around-the-clock remote management capabilities, increasing the availability of the server by continuously monitoring the system and notifying administrators of potential system failures before they actually happen.

The xSeries 235 subsystems are tuned to provide solid system throughput from processor, to memory, to bus, to disk-intensive I/O. These features, combined with SMP capability, make the xSeries 235 server an excellent choice for standalone or clustered general-business application file and print server.

"The xSeries` high-speed memory, 64-bit and 32-bit PCI buses, six Ultra320, hot-swap drive bays, and device bay for high-capacity tape drives make this server ideal for mainstream network computing," says Van der Walt.
