Tarsus receives IBM x445 accreditation

Johannesburg, 24 Feb 2004

Tarsus Technologies has rounded out its service capacity and can now offer IBM solutions and support to businesses of various sizes and requirements with the announcement of its accreditation for IBM eServer xSeries 445 high-end servers.

"Tarsus has, until now, been able to offer its customers a host of IBM solutions, from mobile technologies to servers, but has fallen short when it comes to high-end computing," says Brett Walter, IBM product manager at Tarsus Technologies. "We have now remedied that situation through the accreditation."

The X445 series of 8-way or 16-way servers is a powerful combination of computing power mixed with the reliability and stability expected from the IBM brand. Accreditation on this platform is a sought-after achievement that not only requires theoretical knowledge, but also qualified feet on the ground.

The X445 series offers mainframe technology in a rack configuration that makes it simple to manage and upgrade the system when necessary. Users can start with a basic two-way configuration and add capacity as the need grows.

Innovative technologies such as Active PCI-X, Active Memory, Chipkill memory, Light Path Diagnostics and Predictive Failure Analysis help provide the superior performance and reliability required to respond quickly to data centre demands. "These technologies are designed to allow users to scale, diagnose and repair their systems with minimal disruption, protecting them from costly downtime," Walter explains.

The series also supports an impressive memory capacity of up to 64GB per 16 processors. This means processors rarely need to exchange data beyond cache and main memory, with the result that applications execute faster. Users may even be able to load entire databases into memory for extremely fast transaction processing.

"In March this year, the x445 series will be expanded even further to cater for up to 32 CPUs, ensuring it can handle the most complex tasks South African businesses can throw at it," Walter concludes. "And Tarsus will be ready to assist larger customers with an IBM-accredited service."
