Tarsus Technologies broadens its Intel networking distribution

Johannesburg, 20 Sep 1999

Tarsus Technologies, the distribution arm of MB Technologies, has announced that it has broadened the distribution of its Intel range of products to include the Shiva range of networking products, subsequent to its appointment as an official Shiva Distributor. This makes Tarsus one of two distributors in South Africa to be distributing this range, according to Intel business manager at Tarsus, Darryl Squara.

Tarsus was awarded distribution of the Intel networking range in March this year and has been focusing on the small and medium-sized enterprises with these products.

Intel acquired Shiva Corporation in February 1999 and converted it into a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel, called Intel Systems. Shiva sells solutions for VPN, Remote Access, ISDN Interoperability and Extranets, according to Squara. "Networking plays a strategic role in Intel`s vision of a billion connected computers," he explains, "Shiva`s remote access and VPN products and their focus on SMEs is a complement to Intel`s network systems business."

Squara says there will be no change to the Shiva products, sales or support structures in the immediate future, since Intel is currently in the process of creating an integrated brand which will delineate the integrated product line roadmaps and new support procedures.

"Through our new appointment as a Shiva distributor, Tarsus is able to extend its networking solution into the wide area network, remote access and virtual private networking (VPN) market segments," he says. "Shiva`s compelling Direct Dial Access and VPN product line will add to the strength of the Intel networking products, such as hubs and switches."

He adds that both Intel and Shiva`s reseller programmes remain unchanged for the near future.
