With the opening of its greatly enlarged warehouse facilities in Bramley Park, Sandton, Tarsus Technologies has more than trebled the size of its configuration centre. According to Valentinos Eleftheriades, technical manager at Tarsus, the configuration centre brings a significant value-add to Tarsus` clients. "With the resources at our disposal in the centre, we are able to rapidly respond to the requirements of the reseller, with the capacity to configure any piece of equipment from PCs and notebooks all the way through to enterprise servers," he declares.
A trained staff of 16 work under the supervision of a support team that has attained the highest international certification from vendors of the equipment that they work with, including Compaq, IBM and Hewlett-Packard, while the centre has been awarded the stringent ISO 9002 standard for Assembly and Configuration of PC Hardware and Software.
Tarsus` config centre has been operational for some two years - it was originally commissioned in response to demand from resellers for the company to undertake configuration of large orders on their behalf. "This effectively shortens the supply chain, allowing goods to reach the end-user faster," says Eleftheriades.
"Because our configuration centre allows for the immediate, on-site customisation of equipment, we are able to save our clients money by delivering properly set-up equipment into the field on very short lead times," he adds.
A further significant change to the centre is the incorporation of Tarsus` top-rated support team. As Eleftheriades explains, "This has been done so that our top support engineers are able to work with the configuration centre staff to immediately overcome any technical issues that may arise. By more tightly integrating the two teams, we believe we are able to provide an even better and faster service than before."
He reveals that, should the clients wish to configure equipment themselves, the centre also permits the use its resources for this purpose.
The Tarsus branded white box PC, also assembled in the centre, has earned a reputation for solid quality and performance, and enjoys steady growth of market share a little over a year after its introduction. "This option gives Tarsus the ability to provide highly customised machines to the customer on very short lead times," says Eleftheriades.
"With the expansion of the centre and the integration of the support and configuration centre teams, our capacity has increased tremendously, giving Tarsus the edge in terms of its ability to respond to our clients` requirements," he concludes.
