Tarsus Technologies products win Intel Innovative PC awards

Johannesburg, 05 Oct 2001

Several products distributed by MB Technologies company Tarsus Technologies have been awarded the Fall 2001 Intel Innovative PC awards, which honour mobile, business and consumer computer designs that exemplify the best mix of performance, simplicity and individuality.

The awards were presented at a ceremony during Intel Developer Forum, Fall 2001, in San Jose California for the HP Omnibook 6100, HP Vectra VL800, IBM ThinkPad A Series, IBM NetVista X Series and IBM TransNote.

"This year`s award recipients were selected not only for their innovative features, but also for high test scores in ease of use," said Louis Burns, vice president and general manager, Intel Desktop Platforms Group, during his presentation of the awards. "These mobile, business and consumer computing systems improve performance without sacrificing simplicity."

The first innovative awards were given at IDF Fall 1999 to recognise PC designs that measurably improve set-up, use, expansion and maintenance. The awards have expanded to include mobile and business designs, and highlight the most advanced computing innovations available today.

"Having so many award-winners among our product offering clearly indicates our commitment to provide the highest quality products and firmly entrenches our position as one of the leading hardware distributors in SA," commented Tarsus Technologies MD Guy Whitcroft.

The HP Vectra VL800 is built around the new Intel Pentium 4 processor with an Intel 850 Chipset providing 3.2GBps system bandwidth. Taking real advantage of this, and to deliver top-class multimedia performance, is a choice of two advanced graphics solutions. For 2D performance and dual displays there is the Matrox Millennium G450. Choose the nVIDIA GeForce2 GTS for ultra performance in 2D and 3D/Direct X graphics.

Storage is taken care of with 20GB or 40GB Ultra silent-seek high-speed drives. For extra-fast access choose the Ultra SCSI drives running at 10krpm in 9, 18 or 36GBps. In addition, there is a choice of optical storage devices. The package is complete with a multimedia keyboard and optical mouse.

Defying the trend of "less is more," the IBM ThinkPad A Series comes packed with innovative features. The ThinkPad A series has a large (15-inch) video screen with UXGA (1600x1200) resolution, special keys to launch applications and retrieve e-mail, and a slide-out expansion bay to accommodate a numerical keypad or synchronizing cradle. The laptop also features fast wake-up from standby and an energy saving hibernate mode.

The IBM NetVista X Series is a business desktop computer that presents a departure from the past. Its innovative features include an "all-in-one" design with a small footprint and half-height PCI expansion slots integrated into the back of the PC`s LCD monitor. In addition, the Net Vista`s CD ROM is integrated into the PC using a drop-down media bay. Although compact, the NetVista X Series doesn`t sacrifice performance. It comes with an Intel Pentium 4 processor running at 1.7GHz, with 128MB of RAM.

The IBM TransNote is a combination computer and electronic notepad with built-in optical character recognition. The innovative IBM PC has multiple inputs from the keyboard, a stylus or a finger. This innovative PC can also record on its tablet when disconnected from the notebook. It features an LCD panel that is adjustable for viewing from the opposite side -- for one-on-one presentations. It doesn`t lack power with a high-performance Pentium III processor running at 600MHz with 64MB RAM.
