Tarsus Technologies selected to distribute German Thin Client

Local Thin Client Terminal importer iGel South Africa has selected Tarsus Technologies to distribute its range of German manufactured iGel Thin Client Terminals in this country.

"Tarsus has been selected as the distributor of choice as it has often won Best Distributor awards as presented by various independent magazines," declares Steve Earle, managing director of iGel South Africa. He adds that the profile of products distributed by Tarsus also fits well with the iGel product - including Compaq and IBM servers and Samsung monitors. "Tarsus has strong experience in distribution in the thin client environment and will be employing appropriate product management staff for the iGel product."

Earle states that the thin client market is beginning to mature and consumers are ready to adopt the technology in greater quantities.

"The iGel Thin Client Terminal is ideally positioned to meet market requirements because it is a `broad base` product which addresses the needs of a wide range of vertical markets," says Earle. According to him, this allows dealers to market a single range of products into a wide range of users with vastly differing needs - an approach he believes very different from that of the competition that sell a single function device.

"Almost all other Thin Client makers are playing in a `single function` space. This only becomes apparent to the end user and dealer once they try to implement something a little different, such as `XCFont Services` or remote management," he continues.

Presently, iGel holds a 20% share of the Thin Client market, which Earle expects to boost to 55% to 60% through the agreement with Tarsus Technologies.

"We feel that bringing Tarsus on as our distribution partner will allow us to meet our target as far as market share is concerned. Because Tarsus is a professional distributor with product focus and countrywide support, it can offer better terms than we can. However, iGel South Africa will continue to offer pre-sales support, and act as a conduit to our overseas manufacturers," he says.

"Tarsus believes that the Thin Client market is poised to grow strongly in the future and is positioning itself to be a leader in this technology. Having evaluated the various offerings on the market, we believe that the iGel range offers a great combination of features, performance and stability at a reasonable price," says Guy Whitcroft, managing director of Tarsus Technologies.

"The iGel uses the JNT operating environment which is tried and tested around the world, and marries this with some well designed and built hardware. The product is sourced from Germany - a country renowned for the quality of its products - so we have full confidence that it will provide users with an excellent Thin Client platform," he concludes.
