The AS/400 market is set to see lower prices in the high-availability software market. TCM, the largest AS/400 supplier in SA says it will change the perception of high availability AS/400 software as an expensive solution, previously only the domain of large organisations.
The software will now be marketed to the SME market at a significantly lower price.
This has been realised by Lakeview Technology, the US-based developer of MIMIX high availability management solutions for IBM AS/400 systems, announcing it has signed a resale agreement with local IBM business partner TCM.
"MIMIX delivers ease of use, seamless integration and new solution capabilities for AS/400 availability management. With applications like e-commerce, data warehousing and critical enterprise systems such as SAP R/3, companies must ensure 100% availability of their mission-critical systems and applications," explained TCM marketing executive Jorge de Campos.
"TCM will add value to AS/400 customers by offering local credited skills and support capabilities," he adds. "Implementing high availability or disaster recovery protection solutions require an understanding of the AS/400 platform as well as high-demand applications. TCM has this expertise as the country`s leading AS/400 supplier," he explained.
In terms of operation, MIMIX maintains a real-time copy of a production system`s databases and objects on a backup system. In the event of an outage, MIMIX can switch users to the backup system within seconds, ensuring continuous operation.
The MIMIX/400 software suite creates and maintains one or more exact copies of the DB/400 database by replicating application transactions as they happen. Transaction data is pushed from one AS/400 out to one or more companion AS/400s, so that a viable system with up-to-date transaction information is always available when the primary system goes down.
