TCM Academy, in its third year of existence, saw 19 of its pupils graduate with an NQF level four Technical Support qualification.
The preparation for this programme is provided to previously disadvantaged individuals, over a 12-month period, comprising a theoretical course that is administered at TCM Academy, in Bedfordview, complete with its own lab facilities.
This programme is followed by a practical experience component carried out on site at TCM customers, during which TCM Academy students are allocated a TCM customer engineer to provide guidance and mentoring to the learners.
These modules equip an average of 40 students annually to enter the workspace armed with qualifications, and the practical comprehension and familiarity of the IT services and support environments into which they are penetrating.
TCM Academy is an accredited Pearson VUE testing centre, which gives the learners who have successfully completed the training easy access to write the exam that will validate their certification and learning experience at the academy through the acquisition of an internationally recognised certification.
Through the TCM's collaborative efforts with its partners and its education delivery arms within the skills development arena, it is possible for TCM to absorb many of the skills it produces, knowing that it will be adding value to its customers by incorporating appropriate and meaningful skills into its service delivery chain.
TCM has partnered with HP on its latest skills development initiative, HP Business Institute (HPBI) programme, by transferring practical experience to students participating in the HPBI initiative. The IT reseller contributes to HP's skills development programme by absorbing HPBI students into its TCM repair centre and services areas, exposing them to real practical elements in a live customer service environment over a year-long period, while concurrently completing their NQF level four IT essentials qualification.
Three additional learners from HPBI who have been accepted to progress their careers by enrolling in HPBI's second year to complete their NQF level five Systems Support track, have been received by TCM to gain practical knowledge through TCM's services division. Here the students are guided by TCM field engineers and get involved in various environments across TCM's customer base. The core focus of the Systems Support students is to ready themselves to become MCSE's with the guidance of TCM's Customer Engineers.
A number of 2009 TCM Academy and HPBI graduates have been incorporated into TCM's pool of skills as permanent employees servicing its varied customer base across a large number of sectors. TCM believes that its investment in the youth, who are potential employees, and the facilitation of seamless market entry for these trainees generates trust and confidence in its employees and the youth. This in turn allows for, even in a constantly changing business environment, peace of mind in the workspace breeding a productive team and the realisation of a sustainable skill set.
