TCS, Microsoft in virtualisation deal

IT outsourcing firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has entered into an alliance with Microsoft India to deliver a virtualisation Center of Excellence (COE) in Chennai, states India Times.

The Microsoft-TCS virtualisation COE is a joint initiative by the companies to accelerate the adoption of virtualisation technology in India, TCS said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

"Virtualisation is one of the most disruptive technologies in the world today. Through our partnership...we will address this crucial market need and help customers lend the benefits of virtualisation technology," said Microsoft India MD Rajan Anandan.

Extending virtualisation's reach

Virtualisation is transforming the way organisations deploy and manage their IT resources, reports AME Info.

By helping them more efficiently use hardware, software and personnel, virtualisation enables them to build infrastructures that are flexible, scalable, and - most importantly - economical, as they strive to become truly agile businesses.

But, although virtualisation is now considered a mainstream technology, virtual machines still only account for less than 20% of all data centre servers.

CIOs turn to virtualisation

According to One Stop Click, virtualisation projects are increasingly being implemented by CIOs across the world, a new study has revealed.

The global research by IBM found that 76% of respondents are already undergoing or are planning to implement virtualisation into their operations, alongside other cost-saving measures.

Around four out of five CIOs are also planning to improve the competitiveness of their organisation by using business intelligence and analytics.
