Cape Town-based Team CVT/CSC showed impressive form at the VW Herald Cycle Tour held in Port Elizabeth on Sunday 6 February as no less than five CVT/CSC riders raced for the finish line in a bunch sprint that featured many of the country`s top riders. Malcolm Lange (Microsoft) edged out Jacques Fullard (Minolta) and Jamie Ball to win the Tour, with CVT/CSC team captain Wesley Cole finishing sixth.
"It was a great performance by the guys, particularly against the strong Johannesburg-based teams of Microsoft, Konica Minolta and Exel" said Team CVT/CSC manager Stephen David.
The riders set off in ideal conditions with the legendary Port Elizabeth wind only really affecting the last 30kms. Numerous attacks off the front were soon reeled in by the peleton. However, Wesley Cole (Team CVT/CSC) was one of seven riders involved in a move half way through the race and he powered up the hills to claim the King of The Mountains title. The bunch soon caught the breakaway and it was down to the sprint finish at the end.
CVT/CSC`s Wesley Cole also claimed a fantastic second spot in the Street Mile, held a few hours later. In a thrilling spectacle, the top 20 elite riders from the 105km race sprinted to the line along a one mile stretch on Marine Drive. Malcolm Lange surged ahead for his second win of the day.
