Philanthropic organisation, GreaterGood SA, has added a "Make Christmas Matter" e-tree donation link to its site.

The page allows people to pledge donations online by sponsoring a virtual Christmas tree, which they can decorate with their donations and Christmas wishes. Individual, family and business trees are available, and donors` names are listed on the site, says Tamzin Ractliffe, executive director, GreaterGood SA.

Donors can support a cause of their own choice, or the site`s recommended causes. These include: boosting food , providing clean , improving basic , improving education, building adult capacity, women`s rights training, entrepreneurship and job creation projects, says GreaterGood SA.

The campaign is about "using technology to connect different people in this time of giving," according to the organisation`s Web site.

"We are hoping to create a movement around the world to eradicate poverty," says Ractliffe.

"The campaign makes it easy for people to choose the way they want to brighten an impoverished person`s life and ensures that what people give reaches the bona fide anti-poverty initiatives working for the greater good," she explains.
