The largest single server contract in South Africa to date has been awarded to Bromide Technologies by one of the country`s leading banks as part of the financial institution`s countrywide branch upgrade programme.
The multimillion-rand agreement will see Bromide Technologies deliver around 900 file servers to the bank.
Having competed with the country`s largest technology providers for the deal, Bromide Technologies sees the contract as confirmation that its business model of building trust-based, long-term relationships is paying dividends.
"Through the strong commitment that we as a group have shown this client over the years, and sticking to our `Can Do` value proposition, we have positioned ourselves as supplier and partner of choice," says Sales and Marketing Director for Bromide Technologies, Louis Steyn.
"It is the same approach that partnered us with the Ekhuruleni Metropolitan Council in establishing the first municipality-wide wireless communication network in the country earlier this year. We are now established as a first-choice provider of technology services to the leading corporations in this country - and as far abroad as America, through our locally developed risk management solution distributed by Guideline Africa."
Established in May 1998, the Bromide Group is comprised of six complementary companies - Bromide Technologies, Ensync Business Solutions, eSecure Distribution, SMB Solutions, Managed Print Solutions (MPS) and Guideline Risk Technologies Africa.
Ensync Business Solutions is an e-business solutions company focusing on the medium to large markets with products ranging from VPN, managed private networks, Internet access, hosting to security solutions and remote access.
e-Secure Distribution distributes four niche data network security products through a reseller network, with the technical competence to design, implement, install and configure complete security solutions. These four products are BlueCoat Systems, CipherTrust, WatchGuard and Radware.
As an accredited SAP Business One sales and service partner, SMB Solutions delivers ERP solutions to companies with up to 1 000 staff members, while Guideline Risk Technologies Africa has developed an operational risk intelligence application in South Africa for medium to large corporations. This solution continually monitors risk exposure and aids in the detection of fraud.
MPS, finally, is the latest addition to the group in the form of a company solely focused on reduced operational costs in companies across the business spectrum by consolidating, optimising and streamlining printing and related technologies.
Having undergone a name change from Analysed Computer Solutions to Bromide Technologies in February 2006, Steyn is satisfied that the group has achieved its goal of removing confusion in the marketplace with regard to the group identity. "No matter which of the five entities within the group a customer deals with, our single customer interface across the group means everybody knows us as Bromide Technologies and recognises the values we stand for."
Bromide Technologies was one of the first South African companies to become an HP Preferred Partner on the Hewlett-Packard PartnerOne Programme. Now the fourth largest reseller of Hewlett-Packard products and services in the country, Bromide Technologies deals in Hewlett-Packard`s entire range of Intel-based products, including HP storage products. Bromide Technologies is also a Cisco Premier Partner, specialising in wireless solutions, and the only company in the Gauteng province to form part of the Microsoft Quantum Leap Programme. Being a Citrix Silver Partner also gives the group access to world leading access control and VPN products.
"Our clients mainly consist of large corporations, and it is not uncommon for these companies to eventually simply outsource their entire IT departments to Bromide Technologies, as we are better qualified at and focused on running those functions efficiently and cost-effectively," says Steyn.
"I think the IT arena has now stabilised and will undergo some final consolidation over the next two years, which will enable us to form further partnerships with key vendors, resellers and even rivals to ensure that the end-user gets the best possible value available."
