Technology Junction appointed as sole distributor for FibreFlow

Johannesburg, 14 Aug 2000

Infotech and the Technology Junction (a Division of the Jasco Group) have reached an agreement to collaborate in bringing the FibreFlowTM range of blown fibre products and services to the South African Cabling Installation market.

Of the few blown fibre products that have to date been offered locally, FibreFlowTM has been the only brand that achieved lasting success and substantial penetration into the fibre-optic backbone market. During recent months, the prospect of a much wider installation base for FibreFlowTM gained significant momentum, as more and more installers and end users became familiar with the blown fibre concept and the advantages it has to offer.

Gideon Oosthuizen, Infotech Blown Fibre MD, comments as follows: " Both Infotech and Technology Junction recognized the necessity to offer FibreFlowTM as a mainstream product, as opposed to the novelty-space it had filled to date. We decided to join forces in bringing FibreFlowTM to the Installer, with each party focusing on that part of the market offering that they are best equipped for. Infotech Blown Fibre will continue to provide Training and Certification services, access to blowing equipment, and general product support during installation. The Technology Junction will make use of their existing national infrastructure to bring FibreFlowTM to within closer reach of the Installer, especially those Installers that operate outside of the Gauteng province."

Rickie Spies, CEO of Jasco Electronics Holdings` Data Division, adds: " In terms of marketing the FibreFlowTM product range, the companies would each have a responsibility to a unique sector of the market. Infotech will focus on creating even wider awareness on the blown fibre concept amongst end users. Technology Junction will focus their marketing efforts on the Installer, by adding FibreFlowTM to the substantial range of cabling products already on offer. The combined effect of creating demand and then showing the ability to fill orders quickly and effortlessly should further strengthen FibreFlow`s position in the market. "

Dewald Burger of the Premises Cabling Institute (PCI), responsible for training on optical fibre and cabling products in general, will lead a process of incorporating the use of blown fibre into PCI`s training offerings. Says Dewald: "Blown fibre is not really a rival or `alternative` to conventional fibre - it should rather be seen as a product that has its own specific place in the LAN market. Our intention is to inform our Installers of the type of applications where blown fibre should be used, and the benefits that can be realized in the process."

Finer details of the logistical implementation are still being discussed, but Installers will be able to purchase FibreFlowTM through the Technology Junction network with immediate effect. The move is expected to benefit Installers in specific, mainly because most of the leading products required to build structured cabling systems are available through Technology Junction, and adding FibreFlowTM is a natural extension to the products already on offer.
