TecnologyOne targets overseas vendors
ASX-listed business software provider TechnologyOne has restructured its business as it sets sights on winning cloud business from overseas vendors, such as SAP and Oracle, says Computer World.
The company recently developed a cloud computing suite called C2, which is a re-architecture of its products for the cloud. According to executive chairman, Adrian Di Marco, its C2 strategy will offer a markedly different approach from other vendors, which are building cloud strategies around the existing architecture of their products.
“You architect an application from the ground up for the cloud because that's where you get the compelling value proposition so people get all the benefits of the cloud," he says. "We're saying it is time for us to rethink and not to do what Gartner calls 'cloud washing'."
Compellent unveils storage centre platform
Storage solutions provider Compellent Technologies revealed the latest release of Storage Centre, building on its Fluid Data architecture to scale storage resources and provide access to data while laying the foundation for a grid of Compellent arrays operating as one, states eWeek.
The company says Storage Centre 5.4 features improved storage hardware, integration with server virtualisation technologies and flexible software designed to help IT departments automatically shift storage resources on-demand, non-disruptively to avoid downtime and maintain real-time availability.
Enterprise customers can scale up capacity and functionality with a new controller platform that supports a range of emerging technologies from Fibre Channel over Ethernet to 10Gb iSCSI and from 6Gbps SAS drives to a 2.5-inch 24-bay enclosure, Compellent says. New Live Volume software delivers scale-out capabilities and business continuity through the movement of storage volumes between Compellent arrays.
Siemens intros UC suite
Some unified communications are aimed for business use, but they tend to be complex, expensive and proprietary, says Chris Hummel, CMO for Siemens Enterprise Communications, according to TMC net.
Consumer unified communications (UC) and collaboration solutions from companies like Google and Skype, meanwhile, are easy to use and affordable, but may lack the reliability, scalability and security that businesses need, he adds.
But Siemens Enterprise Communications is bridging the gap between these two sides with the introduction of OpenScape UC Suite 2011, which Hummel says is an affordable, open, and business-grade solution.
