TelePassport`s new Genie Box moves least-cost routing to next level

TelePassport this week released the Genie Box 1.5, with major feature upgrades on its market leading Genie Box analogue LCR switch.

MD Anton Potgieter reports: "The Genie Box created a resounding market leadership for TelePassport, as it was the first third-party hardware unit available capable of providing full seamless least-cost routing (LCR) functionality to any analogue PABX system. Once again TelePassport is first-to-market with the Genie Box 1.5, which now adds time of day routing functionality to the Genie`s formidable performance."

Launched in February this year, the original Genie Box revolutionised LCR service delivery to the SME market overnight by eliminating the need to upgrade old and feature-compromised PABX systems in order to use LCR services. Moreover, clients using the Genie do not need to add LCR ports to their PABXs, and as TelePassport provides full remote management of the Genie solution, no expensive PABX programming charges are ever incurred from the PABX vendor either.

The new release - the Genie Box 1.5 - boasts several significant feature enhancements. Foremost is the provision of a real-time clock module, which allows LCR routing to be customised for different times of day and days of the week.

Potgieter comments: "This is crucial for the routing of national calls, a service which has been running for a few months now. What many clients using this service do not realise is that their national routing is actually losing them money in off-peak time. The Genie 1.5 automatically addresses this by disabling national routing after hours and on weekends, maximising the clients` savings. Time of day routing is going to be essential in LCR provision from now on - so just as the Genie created a new market standard and spawned several look-alike products, we expect the competition are already scrambling to catch up with us again.
