Telesciences partners with Aruba Networks to deliver wireless LAN to SA

Telesciences (Pty) Ltd, Noel Wright, Chief Operating Officer has announced a partnership with Aruba Networks Inc for the deployment of wireless network solutions for Telkom South Africa Ltd.

Having met all corporate procurement policies and procedures, Telkom awarded the tender to Telesciences for the Aruba solution. Aruba Networks` fast-growing enterprise infrastructure with evolutionary new network architecture has established the benchmark that addresses three top concerns of mobility, security and convergence.

The expansion of the information communications and technology sector will see WiFi hotspots or T zones rolled out across the country over the next two years. The multimillion-rand project transcends the enterprise network perimeter, spanning the public Internet to create a single, secure system that follows the user, appearing wherever the user needs to access corporate network services.

T-zones will be set up at identified "hotspots" such as hotels, airports, shopping malls and other selected high traffic areas. Benefits to implementing this system includes not only mobility of Internet access but offers an alternative to traditional methods while increasing the density of Internet access by many different users at any given period.

According to Wright: "Other benefits also include extended reach of enterprise networks; providing secure access to information and voice services anywhere required by the user; enabling new applications, allowing organisations to compete more effectively; and bringing about dramatic economic benefits."

The roll-out operation will begin as early as July 2006 and should be completed by August 2008.
